Your films in the 80s defined my generation....and I still quote MANY of your films on what would seem to be a daily basis.

"Bueller...Bueller...Bueller..."
"Face it. You're a neo maxi zoom dweebie."
"So it's sorta social. Demented and sad, but social."
"Two hits. Me hittin' you, you hittin' the floor."
"Those aren't pillows!"

But the ultimate quote is this...
"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

Read more about the Live Journal Strike This Friday...

For those of you who don't already know, there has been a strike scheduled for Friday, March 21st, 2008, during which we hope to have many members of LiveJournal provide LJ with absolutely no content for twenty-four hours. This means no posting and no commenting. If you post elsewhere and have it set up to be posted through a feed on LiveJournal, don't do it. Stay away from LiveJournal for twenty-four hours. That can't be too hard, can it? I know some of you are probably quite active on LiveJournal and will find it hard to stay away for an entire day, just as I will, but this is something that needs to be done, to show the people running LiveJournal that we're watching the changes they are making, that we're paying attention, that we're discontent, and that we want to be heard and taken in to consideration. We are not simply users who can be tossed to the side and ignored. We are the people who make up LiveJournal. Without us, without the content we create, without our words, our voices, our creativity, our participation, there would be no LiveJournal. This is a fact, and it needs to be realized and understood and then taken in to consideration when making decisions regarding the way that LiveJournal is run. The strike is only a few days away, so there isn't all too much time to prepare. While this is unfortunate, it isn't enough to keep this strike from taking place. It will take place, the second it is meant to, and it would be best to have as many people take part as possible. Please, spread the word. Spread it fast. There are only a few days to organize this. If you find that you care about LiveJournal or care about the people you interact with on LiveJournal or simply want it to remain a place where you can entertain yourself without constant censorship and money-hungry practices being thrown in without the consideration of those who use the service, act now. If you don't wish to spread the word, that is fine, but please: refrain from using LiveJournal on Friday, March 21st. Do something else for a change. It's for a good cause. (:

For background on this strike and why it is being held, please read the following posts:
http://beckyzoole.livejournal.com/394838.html

To find out exactly when the strike begins and ends, depending on where you are located, please see this:

What's this about?

* It's about free and ad-free LiveJournal accounts being abolished for new members, ignoring the advice from the newly-formed Advisory Board.

* It's about LJ staff trying to sneak this decision in under the radar, and when people found out, telling the users it was done 'to make the signup process less confusing'.

* It's about LJ staff failing to apologize for trying to hide the facts from view and for lying about the actual reasons for their actions.

* And finally, it's about the latest decision to hide certain user interests from the list of Most Popular Interests, some of them being fanfiction, bisexuality, fairies, sex and depression. This decision was not announced or explained in any way. Users found out for themselves.

Redgirl and I stopped at the grocery store after I picked her up from daycare and as we were waiting to do our turn, a flatbed trailer stopped right in front of us.

On the trailer was the Dragon Coaster train from Santa's Village.

She recognized it and asked where it was going. I told her that is was moving to a different park far away.

She started to cry...bawl, even..."But I love that Dragon, it's fun!"

Me: "Redgirl, it has to go and make other kids happy, you have other coasters near here. Where it is going, kids don't have any coasters near them."

RG: "But Daddy (sob) I'm gonna miss him. (sniffle)"

M: "I'll miss it too, but just think how happy he'll make the boys and girls where he's moving to."

RG: "But what about meeeeee? (sob)"

M: "Redgirl, don't cry or you'll make the Dragon sad. His job is to make little kids happy and he'll be sad if you cry. He made you happy when you rode him right?"

RG: "Uh-huh (sniffle) he was lots and lots of fun."

M: "Then don't cry, and just think of the fun you had and how much fun he'll be for the new kids he's going to meet."

RG: "OK, daddy. But I'll still miss him."

M: "I will too, honey..."

RG: "Bye bye Dragon...(blows two kisses)...(sniffle)"

***Time passes and we're almost home***

RG: "Daddy, can we go and visit the Dragon at his new home?"

M: "Maybe, sweetie...we'll see...he's going to be really far away..."

RG: "Ok, Daddy...I'll miss you Dragon (kiss) Be fun for the new kids! (Kiss)"

BTW, my Picture on this post is of us on the Dragon Coaster in 2005. It was her first coaster....

I just saw this on Saturday with my wife (we both love musicals) and we both HATED it.

It is slow paced, runs too long (over 2:45) and never enticed the audience.

Also, there was not one "humm-able" song in the entire show. Not a single "Wow!" song or moment either. That is not just my opinion, that was the opinions of everyone sitting in our area.

The best scenes were the few and far between dance scenes. I know this is a musical but with so many mentions of Riverdance in their advertising, most everyone expected a little more.

Some other scenes were farcical (in a bad way), Grace swordfighting moments after giving birth, the "Matrix-like" swordfight screne with slow motion flying pirates clashing mid-air, Grace's dad ceding control of the ship to her after the first swordfight scene, I could go on, but you get the gist.

Finally, I must say this is the first and only musical I have hated. I don't use that word ofter, but this was that bad. I went to this with high hopes and, unfortunately, it would not even had reached mediocre hopes. This show will not last long on Broadway...

Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines

We would like to know who really believes in gay rights on LiveJournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks.

TWO NEWS RIDES FOR THEME & WATER PARK

SANTA CLAUS, IN-----A seven-story family water slide tops the list of $4.5 million in additions for Holiday World & Splashin' Safari in 2007.

"Our Zinga water slide is the most popular ride in Splashin' Safari," says the park's president, Will Koch. "The new Bakuli will add a fun twist to that ride experience, as families will find themselves spiraling inside a gigantic, high-banked bowl."

Bakuli*, more than seven stories tall, will begin with riders careening down a nine-foot-wide, enclosed water slide. Using four-passenger cloverleaf inner tubes, families will ride in the dark, navigating sudden, tight turns.

"And then the bottom will fall out," Koch adds, "and into the sunshine and the 60-foot bowl you'll spiral." The purple, green and yellow bowl will be located on the island in the middle of Bahari River; the start tower will be to the north of the river.

Koch says Bakuli, which is the Swahili word for "bowl," will add capacity, which is again a priority in 2007, as attendance in 2006 is expected to surpass one million guests for the first time in the park's 60-year history.

Holiday World's new ride is Turkey Whirl, a themed tilt-a-whirl. The Thanksgiving section will also gain a new restaurant in 2007; the Plymouth Rock Café will offer cafeteria-style Thanksgiving dinners with outdoor seating for 300.

Koch predicts a five-percent increase in attendance for Holiday World & Splashin' Safari in 2007 and the need for 50 additional seasonal employees.

Holiday World & Splashin' Safari will be open September 9, 16 and 23. Then Holiday World is open September 30 plus October 1, 7, and 8. For more information about the parks, log on to www.holidayworld.com or call 1-877-Go-Family.

I am watching the Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner right now.

It is too fu**ing funny.

They are killing him, but there is just something humorously wrong when you hear an octegenarian Betty White going blue with her comedy. o.O

Mostly Calvin

You are 80% Calvin and 20% Hobbes
Your inner Calvin often prevails, but, as in the image below, you have a significant Hobbesian component. I'm going to try to stretch the visual metaphor here: you have a good head on your shoulders, but when you don't use it, your crazy body gets you in trouble? Does that work? Odds are you're impulsive and imaginative, but it's possible you've collected just enough wisdom to hold your most anti-social urges in check. Most of the time. It's a precarious balance, like a boy on one foot with a tiger head.

My test tracked 2 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

When we visited Holiday World over Memorial Day, I was introduced to a reporter from Colorado Springs, CO by Paula Werne the PR Director of the park.

A couple weeks later the reporter called me and did a 15 minute interview with me about Holiday World and their coasters.  The article was finally published...here is the link to the article. http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/living/travel/15217006.htm

Here's my portion of the article..
"I rode it 25 times," said Chicago resident George Hinkes, 36, a member of American Coaster Enthusiasts, a club of 8,000 roller coaster fans. "Returning back to the station everything is coming at you so fast you barely have time to blink."

Hinkes was with about 500 club members who recently spent three days at Holiday World, which hosts marathon coaster sessions for various clubs.

"Holiday World is my favorite park," he said. "It's the one park I don't have to talk my wife into going to. My old joke is that it is so clean you can eat off the sidewalk."

Here's the whole article...
